Butternut aka White Walnut
These are one year old bareroot seedling trees. The seed was collected from grafted butternut trees. The juglan genus does readily hybridize, so it is possible that these trees will be some sort of random cross. Although it is highly likely that it was pollinated by the nearby Butternut trees.
Many butternut trees have been dying from a canker disease. Propagating new trees from parents that show no sign of disease is important work to protect this species.
